Chapter Thirteen

No sooner had Molly and I finished with breakfast; we departed the breakfast room for the car park.

Felipe had breakfasted earlier. He sat low down in the Grenada, watching as the gringo and his mother appeared in the carpark and headed for their strange looking car. He hoped that Diego had noticed them leaving the hotel.

Felipe only started the Grenada after the gringo had reversed his car and headed for the exit. Felipe waited until he saw their car turn right into the street before he raced forward to the exit of the carpark. Diego appeared and quickly jumped into the car with Felipe. Felipe turned right and followed the gringo at a safe distance.

Gerardo had finished his morning round. He stood in front of the village hall, looking at the noticeboard. An event advertised for that day caught his eye.

Samantha appeared and noticed him looking at the summer fete notice.

‘It’s very popular with visitors,’ she informed him.

‘I would like to visit it,’ he replied.

‘I am going into Dorchester shortly; I can drop you off there if you like.’

‘Thanks, that would be nice of you.’

‘I can show you the bus stop in Dorchester, where you can take the return bus to Abbeysfield, when you are ready to come back. Drop your bike at Sea View Cottage now and I will see you here in twenty minutes.’

‘Thank you so much Samantha,’ Gerardo said, he mounted his bike and headed for Sea View Cottage.

Rachel was in the lounge looking through the front window toward the gates, when Molly and I arrived at the wrought iron gates of Alex Seymore’s house at approximately ten a.m. She immediately opened the gates for us. Once inside, the gates closed behind us. By the time we had driven the twenty metres to the courtyard in front of the big house, Rachel was standing at the front door.

Felipe had slowed as they passed the gates and had briefly seen the gringo’s car approach the large house within. Coming to a stop a hundred metres after the entrance, they discussed what to do next.

‘I followed them here two days ago,’ Diego informed Felipe. ‘They followed the English businessman here in a taxi from the station, this must be his home. I can’t imagine a man like that would assist a fugitive,’ Diego continued, referring to Gerardo.

‘We were told the gringo was coming here on other business. Maybe this is the other business, which has nothing to do with Gerardo,’ Felipe said.

‘Yes, I agree, but why does he take his mother everywhere with him?’

Felipe thought for a moment. ‘It may be his way of thinking people won’t not assume he is a private investigator, as private investigators don’t normally take their mothers along with them when they are hired. Anyway, that is not our concern. He still has a few more days at the hotel. We can only hope he will lead us to Luis. Let’s return to the hotel Felipe, I will have the fish and chips again for lunch.
